Though being the small country, this country has three different regions i.e. Mountain Region, Hilly Region and Terai Region. These three regions have different topographical structure and even the weather of this region differs. Due to this variant in the structure of the country, this country is even rich in wildlife resources, plant and bird species. This place has also been one of the top chosen destinations by ornologist. For studies of birds, this country is the most suitable one. Since the climate remains moderate almost throughout the year, the person travelling here can easily adjust to the changing environment. This country even meets everyone’s budget. Nepal only accounts about 9% in the world’s bird population.

Various national parks and conservation area has been established in Nepal with an aim to conserve and promote various species of wild life and birds. In this tour, we will take you to the nearby spot which is mostly famous for bird watching tour i.e. Shivapuri National Park and Godawari Park. Some of the birds that can be seen in Shivapuri National Park includes: Long-tailed Broadbill, Grey-sided Laughing thrush, Golden-throated Barbet, Orange-bellied Leafbird, Orange-headed Thrush, Asian-barred owlet, Long-tailed Minivet. Whereas, can be found in Godawari.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Drive Kathmandu to Godavari (15 km). Upon arrival, enjoy whole day birding tour at Godavari – approx. 45 minutes’ drive

After breakfast, you will be picked up at your respective hotel. We will drive approximately 15 kilometers southeast from Kathmandu towards Godavari. Nestling at the foot of forested Phulchoki, the greenest, most pristine part of the valley lies at Godavari. It is the area where Royal Botanical Garden is situated where more than 100 species of birds are recorded. The birds that can be seen all around the year includes: Besra, Black Eagle, Mountain Hawk-Eagle, Kalij Pheasant, Common Hill Partridge, Ashy Woodpigeon, Wedge-tailed Green Pigeon, Mountain Scops Owl, Collared Owlet, Golden-throated Barbet, Speckled Piculet, Crimson-breasted Pied and Rufous-bellied Pied Woodpeckers and Grey-chinned Minivet. More than 50 species of migratory birds have recorded to visit the place as the seasonal visitors. After a whole day bird watching tour, you will be escorted to your respective hotel.


Day 2 : Drive Kathmandu to Budanilkantha (10 km). Upon arrival, enjoy whole day birding tour at Shivapuri National Park – approx. 30 minutes’ drive

Like in previous day, you will be picked up from your respective hotel and driven north of Kathmandu towards Budanilkantha. Here a temple dedicated to Lord Bishnu is established. While you are here, you can pay a short visit to the temple. Then continue a short hike up to Shivapuri National Park. Shivapuri is government protected area where you can find over 500 species of birds including migratory birds. It delights bird enthusiasts with blue magpies, kalij pheasants, Bonelli’s eagle, Great Himalayan Barbets and other exotic birds. Bird watching in the forest of Shivapuri national park provides a very nice opportunity to know the richness of a vocational diversity in Nepal Himalayas. After viewing various species of birds that will be recognized by our guide, you will be driven back to your respective hotel.
