Taudaha Lake is a small lake in the outskirts of Kathmandu, in Nepal. This lake also has historical significance. This freshwater lake is surrounded by rice paddies are situated southwest from Kathmandu, about 7 km from Balkhu Ring Road, on the road to Dakshinkali. Legends have that the lake was created by God Manjushree as a home for the serpents who lost their home when the valley was drained. It is believed that the King of the Naga (or Serpents) – Karkotak resides to this day in the epicenter of the lake. The walls of his palatial home are said to be richly decorated with sapphires, rubies and other precious stones. This place is a paradise for a bird watcher during the winter season when the migratory birds fly and settles here. It is known to harbor more than 40 varieties of birds mostly dependent on wetlands.

Pharping lies just around 6/7 kilometers away from Taudaha. Pharping is a small village which consists of numbers of religious sites like: Dakshinkali Temple, Shesnarayan Temple, Padmasambhava’s Asura Cave, etc. Not only for these holy sites, is this place famous for the bird watching tour as well. Taudaha is on the way to Pharping and is not allowed swimming and fishing in the lake. It is considered on the sacred lake. Due to its long stretched hill with forest, sparse population in Pharping and the beautiful lake; around hills near to the Bagmati River, these places are renowned as a better place for habitat of birds and other wild life.
