Embarking our nature and wild life tour, you’ll be driven towards Trongsa, meaning New Village. Enroute you will observe the stunning views and pass through open yak pastures, winding river valleys, villages and yak herders’ camps. You’ll observe the changing vegetation from high alpine mountains to semi-tropical forests as you drive from Paro to Trongsa. You’ll stop and look out for some mammals that can be observed in Dochu La (3112 m) before heading towards Pele La Pass (3353 m). Along the way we shall visit the striking Dzong of Trongsa, which overlooks the Mangde River. Stay overnight at Trongsa village.
On the following day, we will have our breakfast and continue our drive towards Tongtongphe town from where you’ll commence trek to Tongtongphe. During the trek towards the Mönpa village of Jangbi, keep your eyes open for squirrels, Asiatic black bear and musk deer. These animals are mostly observed by the tourist during the trek. After walking for about nine kilometers, you’ll reach campsite which lies at an altitude of 4560 feet above sea level. Camp overnight at Jangbi.
After an appetizing breakfast, we set out early today as the walk is quite long. The trail follows the ridge line and descends through the Chir Pine forest. Along the way you can witness sambar deer, barking deer and the unusual gorals. Later you will ascend again through the thick forests of Phumzur and Mönpa small communities. When we reach Kudra our campsite offers a bird’s-eye-view of Nimshong village and the town of Zhemgang. Today’s campsite will be at an altitude of 5453 feet above sea level.
Starting your day, you’ll explore rich forested area with the magnificent National Park. Today’s destination will be Jigme Singe Wangchuck National Park which consists of different animals, reptiles, birds and plants including tigers, leopards and other rare and elusive animals. This national park can produce some excellent species such as goral, bears and forest mammals; if we are in luck we shall see leopards and the elusive tiger. If local conditions allow we will spotlight for nocturnal species.
Continue your trek from Kudra to Nabji, the most stunning section of the trek. Today’s walk is mostly downhill with few ascents. Around Nabji village, there are various wild boars and sambar deer so we are pretty confident of spotting these species as well as searching out for the local tigers, leopards, bears and other rare animals. The local people have numerous stories of spotting tigers and leopards along this trail so better keep your eyes open. This trek goes through dense old growth forests. After walking for a distance for about 13 kilometers, you will arrive at Nabji, a beautiful village where paddy fields seem to surround the clustered houses.
This part of the trek is through the rich broad leaf forest and there are great chances of spotting mammals and birds. The destination today is the Mangde Chu River, where you shall bid goodbye to our trekking crew and head further on to Zhemgang via car (1 hour). Along the way and whilst at Zhemgang you should spot golden langurs, capped langur, flying squirrels and Himalayan giant squirrels and after dark possibly the very elusive Asiatic golden cat.
On the following day, we trek towards Riotala, a small village. The walk is quite moderate passing through the ascending and descending trail. Keep an eye open for deer and macaques along the way while enjoying the beautiful view over the Mangde Valley. Crossing over the Chorten, you will follow the river bed and pass through the Mangde River. Upon your arrival at Riotala, you will be driven back to Trongsa.
On the final day of our trek, you’ll be driven back the same route from where you started your journey from Paro.
