After a hearty breakfast, our guide will pick you up for an exciting drive southeast from Kathmandu. You'll cross the Bagmati River bridge, which separates Kathmandu from Lalitpur district, and travel through the city, towns, and farm villages until you reach the cooler alpine area of Godavari, known for its famous botanical garden and herb plantations.
Approximately 40 minutes southwest of Kathmandu, we'll arrive in Godawari. After parking the vehicle, we'll enjoy a tea break before starting our hike. We'll then trek through a lush forest rich in rhododendrons, oak trees, and a variety of birds. From Godavari, the best way to observe birdlife is to embark on a hike with periodic stops to enjoy the views and search for birds. After a few hours of climbing in the refreshing mountain air, you'll reach the summit of Phulchowki.
Reaching the summit of Phulchowki involves a long hike, typically taking 4 to 5 hours of walking through nature. Once at the top, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views stretching from Annapurna in the west to Mount Tseringma (Gauri Shanker) in the east. We'll pause here for a hearty packed lunch and take in the stunning scenery. A small army canteen is available where you can purchase tea, coffee, water, soups, and cookies.
Phulchowki's forested hills are rich with exotic flora and approximately 90 bird species, including the endemic Spring Babbler, Himalayan Cutia, Mountain Hawk Eagle, Rufous-bellied Pied Woodpecker, and Black-throated Parrotbill.
Following a rewarding day of birdwatching and enjoying the natural beauty of Phulchowki, we’ll descend to the road-head and drive you back to your hotel, concluding a marvelous day of scenic exploration.
